Tips for better FSD performance
Clean cameras help FSD and Autopilot see. Wipe the outside lenses; keep the windshield clear for the cameras behind the glass.
Front bumper camera may not be on every car.
The diagram’s #1 (front bumper, with its own spray washer) is common on newer vehicles such as Refresh Model Y.
Many older cars (including many HW3 Model 3 / Model Y) do not have a bumper camera — skip that spot if yours doesn’t have one.
Fender, pillar, rear, and windshield cameras still apply.
How to clean an outside lens
- Spray plain water on the lens.
- Dry with a clean microfiber cloth.
- For a stubborn stain, an isopropyl alcohol wipe (eyeglasses / screen type) is fine.
If your car does have a front bumper camera: on the touchscreen, tap the app launcher → Camera → press the spray icon. You don’t have to reach the bumper.
How often · what to avoid
- Weekly in wet / dirty weather; monthly when it’s dry.
- No household or harsh cleaners, nothing abrasive or sharp — lens damage isn’t covered by warranty.
- No hydrophobic / rain-repellent coating on the front windshield (side and rear windows are fine).
- Haze on the inside of the windshield at the camera area is a Tesla Service job — the car will prompt under Controls → Service → Maintenance.
